This was pretty much the view, looking northeast, from the rooftop on Jane Street in the Village, where I dined just before sunset last Sunday night with my sister and 4 extremely delightful men -- Brian and Sam and Charles and Bill -- all gay. Awesome, huh.
Charles, our host, is the proprietor of AtHomeUS, an apartment rental service for vacationers to New York City. He's dear friend of Emily's and a fantastic cook. So what did we eat?
Em and I brought smelly cheeses and wine. Charles made a salmon and bean pate, a monster salad and a killer pasta entree with shrimp and pine nuts and very zippy spices. We drank more wine. We ate brownies and apple tart. We drank more wine. We gawked at the sunset. We talked about politics and got depressed, then changed the subject to love and theater and food and sex. We drank more wine and took a cab home. In all, a fabulous evening that no restaurant could possibly trump.
Rooftop dining on a gorgeous summer night in the world's greatest city...sometimes I really do love New York so much my little heart could burst.
What a memorable, picture perfect NYC evening. Great company, great conversation, great food and wine...what can trump that?
Having seen Sex and the City today, I am homesick and ready for a Manhattan fix pronto.
